Just as we finally finished debating whether the new iPad gets overly hot during use or not, a new report suggesting that the third-generation Apple tablet may have some Wi-Fi-related issues popped up.
According to?internal AppleCare documents acquired by 9to5 Mac, Apple is currently "actively investigating" a variety of Wi-Fi-related issues affecting the third-generation iPad, better known as the "new iPad."
Such an investigation shouldn't be surprising considering that there have been plenty of comments?in Apple's own Support Communities?in which users complain that?their new iPads are dropping Wi-Fi connections, experiencing slow upload or download speeds, or struggling to connect to Wi-Fi networks in the first place. So far it appears that only Wi-Fi-only models of the third-generation iPad are affected by these issues while the models with 4G LTE support aren't giving their owners quite so many headaches.
9to5 Mac's Mark Gurman explains that an unnamed source told him that AppleCare employees are being instructed to "capture" iPads which are affected by the Wi-Fi issues. This means that the devices should be "immediately packed up and shipped to Apple?s engineering centers for examination and investigation." (Don't misunderstand: These iPads are being replaced?? not just snatched out of complaining customers' hands.)
We've reached out to Apple for confirmation of these issues and the?investigation, but in the meantime it's worth noting that similar complaints about Wi-Fi connectivity have popped up in the past?? notably with the iPad 2 and prior generations of the iPhone. These issues were resolved through software updates.
