Clear your calendars, because the POW! Foundation has announced the 2013 Winter Season lineup at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, with season subscription packages going on sale Friday, Aug. 3.
Clint Black will perform a concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18.
Four great performances will be held on the PCPA?s stage from January through April 2013, ranging from country music to a historical one-woman show.
The winter season kicks off with country music star Clint Black, performing a concert 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18. Black, who has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, has been touring almost non-stop since he made it big in the crossover country movement of the 1990s, along with Garth Brooks, Shania Twain and Faith Hill.
Black?s stop at the PCPA is thanks to the POW Foundation, which partnered with a string of performing arts centers throughout Southern California to make this tour possible. The show will be intimate, featuring Black and just two back-up musicians. Black?s performance is a special engagement; no discounts, ticket vouchers or youth-priced tickets are available.
Political satirists The Capitol Steps return after an 11-year hiatus from the PCPA stage, just in time for election season, performing 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16. The group began in 1981 when working as Senate staffers for Senator Charles Percy, they were planning entertainment for a Christmas party. They ended up creating satirical song parodies and skits pulled from the headlines, and a group was born.
The show has no particular political bias, as left, right and middle are equally, humorously mocked. The group has recorded over 30 albums in their 30 years together, including their latest, ?Take the Money and Run ? For President.?
Gilbert and Sullivan?s comedic opera ?Pirates of Penzance? will set sail on the PCPA stage for one night only, 8 p.m. Saturday, March 30. This swashbuckling musical features a cast of more than 20 actors, lavish costumes and a full orchestra, all the better to bring the tale of pirates, forbidden love and mayhem to life.
?Pirates of Penzance,? which debuted in 1879, is one of the most popular Gilbert and Sullivan shows to be performed, along with ?The Mikado? and ?H.M.S. Pinafore.?

?Penzance has always been one of my favorite Gilbert and Sullivan shows ? funny, flirty and filled with bumbling pirates,? said POW! Foundation executive director Michael Rennie in a press release. ?What?s not to love! This will be a great show for parents and grandparents to introduce kids to the world of musical theater!?
The last show in the winter season is a one-woman play, ?Eleanor: Her Secret Journey,? 8 p.m. Saturday, April 20. The play stars Loretta Swit, who is best known for her role as Major Margaret ?Hotlips? Houlihan on the long-running television show ?M*A*S*H.?
?Eleanor: Her Secret Journey,? based on 1979 book by Rhoda Lerman, is described as a ?deeply personal portrait? of the former first lady.
Four show season subscription packages go on sale Friday, Aug. 3, with single tickets available beginning Friday, Sept. 28.
Subscription packages are $192, with discounts available for seniors at $189 and youth 18 and under at $107 (all prices include $3 handling fee). Discounts for groups of 10 or more and fundraising tickets are also available.
