Improving credit score: Important tips

Your credit score is an important thing when it comes to how lenders, dealers, companies or banks see you. It is what they look at to determine if you are worthy enough to get a loan or even to get that job position you?ve been longing for. Your credit score however, won?t just maintain or go up by itself. It needs you to take care of it. A healthy credit score will get you through a lot of things, while a poor one will just make things difficult for you or worse, it can get you to nothing.

1. Pays bills on time- Did you know that skipping out on your bills will mark your credit report for 7 or even 10 years? And within those years, that record will have an effect on your report and so on. Paying on time will not only get your bills done in no time, it will also give your score a boost! And if you can actually pay a little more than what is required, then you?ll be giving your credit score such a favor.

You?ll finish your balance early and you?ll pay less for the interest rate over time.

2. Use your credit card- This is probably the best tip ever when it comes to keeping your credit score high. Using your credit will give you a chance to boost it and give you good marks on your credit report. It?s best to stay 20 or 30% below to let creditors see that you are responsible and that you know your limits well. Exceeding your limit will only give you problems. You will go out of your budget, you won?t be able to pay your balance immediately, you?ll hurt your credit score and you might sacrifice some of you bills just to pay for it. Pay your bills on time and prevent future problems from coming in.

3. Check your credit score regularly- Checking it will prevent errors or you could at least get them off early if there are any. False items in your record will affect future transactions and will hurt your credit score. Better if you check your score every 3 or 4 months. You are entitled to one free credit report every year from the credit agencies. Check them for errors or even fishy transactions, don?t let these things hurt your score.

Your credit score will become a very important part of your life. Taking care of it early will help you in the future and will also help you become socially responsible. This will also help you through a lot of things, your house, a car and even your job.

Facebook Has Lost About $35 Billion In Value Since IPO As Shares Dip Below $29

Screen Shot 2012-05-29 at 12.51.12 PMPain, pain, and more pain for Facebook's stock. Facebook sunk into the $20s for the first time today, declining about 9 percent as options trading started. The decline also came a day after a third wave of reports came out about a Facebook phone, which would push the company into the risky and expensive world of building hardware. Shares hit a new low of $28.65 and are now trading at $28.84. That gives the company a market capitalization of $79.02 billion, down from $115 billion market cap Facebook opened at on the day of its IPO when it started trading at $42.05 a share.** (That said, if you're a glass-is-half-full kind of person, Facebook is now cheap, cheap, cheap!)

(AP) ? Social media sites and blogs have lit up after eagle-eyed viewers spotted a surprise cameo in a Chinese TV documentary about the country's police force: Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his now-wife, Priscilla Chan.

The documentary by CCTV was part of a series on Chinese police and high-tech crime-solving methods. A few seconds of footage showing Zuckerberg and Chan walking behind two police officers were shown included in a brief clip posted online by the Hebei province satellite station.

The footage shows the couple wearing the same clothes they were photographed in during a March 27 visit to Shanghai. Zuckerberg wears his custom hooded sweat shirt, this time in brown, and blue jeans, while Chan wears a printed short dress.

The clip shows Zuckerberg looking at the back of the police officers and smiling broadly as the couple walks off-screen. As they are shown, the narrator says: "There is a serious shortage in China's police manpower."

It was not immediately known whether CCTV producers had knowingly inserted Zuckerberg into the documentary. Facebook is blocked in China, along with Twitter, YouTube and other foreign social media, a reflection of the leadership's fear that its power could be threatened by allowing citizens to organize outside of Communist Party control and enjoy unfettered access to information.

Zuckerberg has visited China to vacation and to meet with high-tech entrepreneurs, including a 2010 lunch with Robin Li, CEO of leading Chinese search engine Baidu. He married the 27-year-old Chan on May 20 in a private ceremony at their home, during the same week that he turned 28 and stock for the social network site began trading publicly.

A spokesman for Facebook, based in California, declined to comment Monday on the video clip.

Eye Candy for Today: Bierstadt - Lines and Colors

SolarTech Partnership Model: Investing in People, Powering Solar ...

A clean energy revolution

Like the first wave of electrification changed the lives of our forbears in the early years of the last century, these first decades of the 21st century mark the beginning of solar power and clean as a mainstream reality in our daily lives. Solar power is an emerging market for an industry taking its first steps in the new energy economy. While solar and clean tech promise to transform our society for the better, the industry?s rapid expansion carries with it many growing pains, not the least of which is the struggle to effectively manage workforce development ? put simply, finding the right people for the right jobs at the right time.

Growing pains: a solar industry call to action

The industry has done a good job in the past few years investing in products and processes ? what it does and how it does it ? but it hasn?t kept pace so well in who?s going to do what needs done for solar companies to grow and adapt in an emerging industry. As important as they are, too many independent training programs have cranked out too many rooftop installers for the industry to absorb, as one case in point. Training, recruiting, and workforce needs are too often fragmented efforts work in isolation. What is needed is a market-based, systematic approach to training and staffing.

?In the past 5 years we?ve seen major cost and time?to?market reductions, helping the industry scale? says Fabienne Rodet, Senior Analyst for SolarTech, a Silicon Valley-based solar industry leadership initiative. ?Where the solar industry has fallen short, in our view, is investing in people and this is fundamentally where we need a solar industry call to action.?

The SolarTech Workforce Innovation Collaboration ? Faster, smarter, cheaper

SolarTech has taken up that call to action. In partnership with NOVA Workforce, Foothill-DeAnza Community Colleges and San Jose State University, SolarTech has pioneered the SolarTech Workforce Innovation Collaborative (SWIC), a novel pilot program for training high-level solar professionals and matching them with available jobs.

SWIC is a public/private partnership funded by a $4 million Green Innovations Challenge Gant sponsored in 2010 by the California Labor & Workforce Development Agency. The SWIC model identifies current market needs and trends in a real time basis, integrating that ongoing research with relevant and thorough professional-level training in all aspects of solar, clean tech and energy efficiency. Closing the circle is coordination of this industry research and training with employee screening and placement services.

The core message bears repeating: the right person for the right job at the right time.

Since its inception, SWIC has proved a?successful?win-win model for workforce development in a fast-paced industry, cutting the cost to employers for finding qualified professionals to $0, often saving companies from $12,000 to $18,000 in employee acquisition costs and countless hours of wading through the resumes of unqualified candidates. Prospective employees are educated, industry-trained, and ready to ?hit the ground running.?

Training is offered free of charge to students at various community colleges throughout the Bay Area, including classes in Solar PV Design, Solar Sales and Proposal Development, Clean Energy Technology, Building Science, Energy Management and Efficiency, EV and Hybrid Vehicle Technology, and other relevant courses of study aimed at closing the gap between trained professionals eager to enter the industry and available jobs.

In two years the program has gone from concept to 254 students trained and, as of this writing, at least 129 placed in jobs, with many more expected in the coming weeks.

SWIC up close and personal

Five graduates of the SWIC program were on hand last week at SEMI global headquarters in San Jose to report to Facilities Director John Friedlund their findings from a detailed energy efficiency analysis for the building, part of their ?final exam? for the commercial building energy efficiency portion of the training.

John was willing to let teams of students poke and prod at the building?s HVAC, lighting, and plug load data, and for doing so was presented with an estimated $30,000 in potential operating cost reduction.

This real-world experience is an important key component of the SWIC program, offering graduates a solid footing to test their knowledge and work flows as well as an opportunity for both prospective employee and employer a chance to work together.

The event at SEMI was attended by representatives of all stakeholders in SWIC to showcase the results-oriented focus of the program. ?This is a textbook example of what we envisioned two years ago,? said project manager Justin Bradley.

At the conclusion of the presentation the students discussed their experience and outlook for the future. One of the five students had already landed a job, but all expressed enthusiasm and hope for their prospects in the industry, all from a combination of their own hard work and the opportunities provided from the SWIC program.

Besides the employment screening and placement service from Nova Workforce, SWIC organizes solar industry job fairs?and regular contact with employers throughout the course of the training. ?In fact, it was this sort of contact that landed Rudy Schneider his job. Rudy?s ?job interview? happened after class between the classroom and the parking lot with that evening?s guest speaker on smart grid technology. Now that guest speaker is Rudy?s boss.

?That brings up the relational aspect [of the program],? says SWIC Program Manager Justin Bradley, ?that you can give the right training, you can give everything, but unless there?s a lead and a link of relationships it?s really hard to make these things work?

The future of SWIC

For a program with a proven concept and such great potential like SWIC, there?s got to be a down side. And there is ? chiefly in the fact that, at least for now, the SWIC program is over. The five students I met the other day are among the last to benefit from the program as the grant funding has all but run its course.

?The State has called in our grant as of the 1st of June,? SolarTech Director of Grants and Industry Solutions David McFeely told me. ?But we are working on plans for an industry-funded approach for SWIC,? he said, ?perhaps a subscription-based model.?

The size and scope of any future program will be hammered out in the next six to eight months, with hopes of a new program launch before the year is out. ?We want to do any replicating and scaling smartly and in the right way,? says Rodet.

Even if not exactly sure what the future holds for a working program, SolarTech is optimistic that the SWIC idea will benefit the growth of solar, energy efficiency and clean tech into drivers of a new 21st century economy ? indeed it already has.

?It?s an investment in people,? says McFeely. And it is people, after all, upon which the success of solar energy and the entire new energy economy depend.

N.J. mayor arrested on hacking, conspiracy charges

IDG News Service - The mayor of West New York, New Jersey, was arrested together with his son on Thursday, for allegedly hacking into a website that criticized him and his administration.

Felix Roque, 55, of Hudson County, and Joseph Roque, 22, of Passaic County, were charged with gaining unauthorized access to computer systems, causing damage to protected computers and conspiracy to commit those crimes, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey said on Thursday.

According to the criminal complaint filed against Felix Roque and his son, on Feb. 6, 2012, the two men began to conspire to hack into and disable a website called www.recallroque.com.

The website had been set up anonymously by a Hudson County resident and government official earlier that month and had received contributions from a number of people, identified in the complaint as victims.

For the next two days, Joseph Roque allegedly researched hacking tutorials online and attempted to learn the identity of the website's owner by sending him messages and posing as a person interested in contributing to the website.

On Feb. 8, Joseph Roque managed to reset the password for the email account associated with the recallroque.com domain name and took screenshots of the email messages found inside, an FBI agent who investigated the case said in a sworn affidavit. Some of the messages exposed the identities of people who had sent information to the website, he said.

Joseph Roque then allegedly performed a password reset for the Go Daddy account used to administer recallroque.com. This allowed him to cancel the domain name and effectively disable the website, the FBI agent said in the affidavit.

Over the course of the following days, Mayor Roque allegedly used the information gathered by his son to call or email the website's contributors with the intention of intimidating them.

During a meeting with the website's owner on Feb. 17, which was being recorded by the latter at the request of law enforcement, Mayor Roque attempted to conceal the hacking activity by suggesting that he had a friend at the CIA who provided him with the information.

"It's incredibly disappointing that resources have to be diverted from protecting the US against cyber intrusions targeting critical infrastructure, federally funded research and military technology, to address a public official intruding into computer systems to further a political agenda," FBI Special Agent in Charge Michael B. Ward, who led the FBI team that investigated this case, said.

The conspiracy and unauthorized computer access charges each carry a maximum possible sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to US$250,000. The charge of causing damage to protected computers is punishable by one year in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Ironically, even though he now stands charged with hacking into a website that was trying to organize a petition to recall him from office, Felix Roque has lead a recall effort himself in 2009 against the former West New York mayor, Silverio Vega.

Loyalty Startup Belly Hits 1 Millionth Check-In; Active Merchants Say Belly Check-ins Top Foursquare

belly Belly, the Chicago-based loyalty platform which just closed its $10 million Series B from Andreessen Horowitz?earlier this month, is today announcing a pretty significant milestone: its 1 millionth check-in. The startup allows customers to check-in to a location using a physical loyalty card or mobile app which they scan via a consumer-facing iPad installed at point-of-sale. By doing so, customers collect points that can later be redeemed for unique rewards tailored specifically for the business in question. The company has been growing fast, and CEO Logan LaHive tells us that in some of Belly's locations, there have been more Belly check-ins within its first month of being up-and-running, than the total number of Foursquare check-ins the business has seen to date.

Weight Loss Myths Busted ? Sharecare.com Blog

I?ve heard just about every weight-loss myth imaginable. It?s time to set the record straight! Don?t let these common misconceptions keep you from successfully losing the weight and keeping it off.

Weight Loss Myth #1

?I can?t lose weight if I was overweight as a child.?

You can always lose weight! You are not your childhood or your genes. Your genes account for about 25 percent of your health. Your lifestyle choices account for about 75 percent! If you implement proven strategies, you can successfully lose weight at any age and keep it off. In fact, the National Weight Control Registry (NWCR) reports that over 70 percent of successful weight-loss maintainers were overweight as children and teenagers.

Weight Loss Myth #2

?I can?t lose weight if I?ve tried diets in the past and they didn?t work.?

It may be time to change your approach. More than 90 percent of those surveyed by the NWCR reported previous attempts at weight loss. In fact, over 60 percent said that they tried four or more times to lose weight before they were able to lose the weight and keep it off.

Often times, weight loss and weight maintenance is unsuccessful because people try weight-loss fads that lead to yo-yo dieting instead of proven methods. If you implement the right strategies you WILL lose weight, and if you consistently maintain these healthy behaviors you WILL keep it off.

Weight Loss Myth #3

?If I lose weight I?ll have to starve myself to keep it off.?

Here?s something to chew on: A vast majority (85 percent)?of successful weight maintainers reported that they eat three healthy meals per day, with breakfast being the most important meal. They also reported that they did not feel deprived; in fact, they felt they were happier, had more energy and exhibited more self-confidence.

If you follow a healthy eating plan that includes an abundance of fruits and vegetables, lean protein, whole grains, low fat dairy and healthy fats, you can feel totally satiated while providing your brain and body the key nutrition that it needs to optimize your health.

Weight Loss Myth #4

?To lose weight I have to become an exercise fanatic.?

Not true, unless you consider walking fanatical. Successful weight loss maintainers reported that they generally exercised for three times per week, for 30 minutes at a time. Walking was the most reported physical activity.

This is still less than what is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health and the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I recommend that you get 10,000 steps per day (or accumulate 70,000 steps for the week) and at least 20 minutes of physical activity a day that makes you sweat and gets your heart pumping. This can activity can take the form of fast walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, using an elliptical machine, resistance training, yoga, and recreational sports.

Weight Loss Myth #5

?I can?t lose weight because I?m over 40.?

Age isn?t a valid excuse. It is true that your metabolic rate decreases as you age. It?s also true that you lose lean muscle as you age. But regular physical activity slows and/or prevents a decline in both. If you incorporate regular cardiovascular training, resistance training, and flexibility training, you can maintain and enhance your metabolism and lean muscle mass.

Segui could be forced to testify against Clemens

(AP) ? Prosecutors finally have some momentum in their perjury case against Roger Clemens, even if it means dragging in former major leaguer David Segui, a witness who is apparently so reluctant to testify that the judge threatened from the bench: "If he doesn't show up, he'll be arrested like anyone else."

U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton indicated Wednesday he was leaning heavily toward allowing prosecutors to call Segui and another witness to counter an overall impression left by Clemens' lawyers during the 6-week-old trial. Segui is expected to say that sometime around 2001 he was told by Clemens' strength coach, Brian McNamee, that McNamee had saved evidence from injections of players to placate a nagging wife.

That would be consistent with McNamee's testimony last week ? that he kept waste from an alleged steroids injection of Clemens in 2001 and stored it in a beer can to soothe things over at home. McNamee's wife, according to McNamee, was concerned that he would become the fall guy if his involvement with drugs-in-baseball were ever exposed.

But there's a catch. Prosecutor Courtney Saleski said Segui, who retired in 2004 after 15 major league seasons, "doesn't want to come" even though he's under subpoena.

Judge Walton's response: "You just tell him if he's under subpoena, he'd better be here." Or else, added the judge, "he'd better be on the run because the marshals will be after him."

Clemens is accused of lying to Congress in 2008 when he said he had never used steroids or human growth hormone, and a trial that appeared to be going so well for the seven-time Cy Young Award winner has this week thrown him a few curveballs. When Clemens' lawyer Rusty Hardin shared a laugh with the judge while fighting an uphill battle against Segui's testimony ? "I don't want to beat a dead horse," Hardin said ? Clemens sat at the defense table and didn't so much as crack a smile.

Essentially, Hardin is paying the price for his three days of aggressive cross-examination of McNamee, who says he injected Clemens with steroids in 1998, 2000 and 2001 and with HGH in 2000. On Monday, the judge ruled that Hardin had opened the door for McNamee to name other players to whom he had supplied HGH, something the defense had fought vigorously to keep from the jury.

Now the government ? and the judge appears to agree ? says that Hardin went too far in trying to build a case that McNamee started making up charges and fabricating evidence against Clemens around 2007 as a way to appease federal agents.

Walton said the jury is left with the impression that "because the government had made these allegations, that he started to give them what they wanted to stay out of harm's way and avoid going to prison."

Segui and Anthony Corso, who was one of McNamee's private workout clients in New York City, could refute that. Corso is expected to testify that he was told by McNamee as early as 2002 that Clemens used HGH and that in 2005 he was told by McNamee about the saved evidence from the 2001 injection.

With the jury out of the courtroom, Hardin tried to argue that the defense has never contended that McNamee made up the beer can evidence recently. Hardin told the judge that McNamee created it to save as a "hole card" as a way to possibly extort money from Clemens one day.

Walton said there was no evidence to support Hardin's contention. The judge added: "If what you're saying is true, then why did you beat on him so much about his desire to appease the government?"

The judge went even further, wondering why McNamee would have fabricated evidence in 2001: "There's no indication that Mr. Clemens did something to him back then that would cause (McNamee) to have a vendetta against Mr. Clemens."

Walton said he would make a definitive ruling on Segui and Corso on Thursday, but he said nothing to indicate that the Clemens team had swayed his thinking.

The only witness during a shortened trial session on Wednesday was Gene Monahan, the longtime head athletic trainer of the New York Yankees. The prosecution used Monahan to try to make its case in some of its lesser charges against Clemens.

One charge is the Clemens obstructed Congress when he said in a deposition that "four or five needles" of the vitamin B12 would be "already lined up ready to go" in the trainers' room after games.

Monahan said the Yankees never did anything of the sort with B12. He did create an interesting mental picture when he told the jury he would sometimes order "team gargles" ? players lining up to gargle medicine to fight off a rash of head colds.

Monahan praised Clemens' work ethic and leadership skills with younger players.

"He was mother duck and there were other ducklings" who would try to emulate the pitcher's demanding fitness routines, Monahan said. He said he never saw any evidence that Clemens was using performance-enhancing drugs.

The government still has up to six witnesses left to call, and the trial's length is causing all sorts of sacrifices. The judge conceded Wednesday that he'll probably have to cancel most of a planned trip to New Orleans in June because the case won't be settled by then.

"You all are going to deny me the opportunity to have some good gumbo," he said.

Dog Fences Help In Keeping Man's Closest Friend Safe | Love My ...

Do you or someone you care about own a dog? Have you heard stories regarding those household pets being hurt while tied to a tree in the garden or getting of that string and running into the street? I had a dog who got off the leash and ran into the street and was hit by a vehicle. You might think about how precisely you can safeguard your dog or the one of someone you care about. Dog fences can do that and are crucial resources for any pet owner. These dog friendly containment systems come in many forms and measurements, and every form of fence offers lots of benefits to pet owners. Regardless of whether the puppy is big or little, a fencing system will give you an ample amount of security for the beloved dog. A dog fence can be used as temporary confinement or as a permanent house.

There are lots of benefits to making use of a containment system for your pet. These animals instinctively thrive outdoors. A fence offers these happy family hounds with a safe place to run, eat, and relax. The animal?s freedom isn?t restricted which leads to a more healthy and happier animal. A lot of owners lock up their dogs inside or tie them up outside. This prevents the friendly creatures from having the good amount of exercise. Without this essential exercise, the animal?s life could be shortened. Dog fences permit these active creatures to live freely and roam the lawn and utilize every inch of place available.

A confined pooch is secure from numerous risks. A dog fence keeps a dog from running away or roaming into the road. It also avoids other hounds from attacking. Also, if your puppy dog is female and in heat containing her will keep stray dogs out and could prevent you from needing to look after a litter of puppies. A lot of fences can provide security from lizards, raccoons, and other wild intruders and creatures. Issues with other creatures are typical problems of pet owners who keep their household pets outside the house. A fence will eliminate all of these problems by making a secure bubble of security for the pooch.

There are many Short Term Fence For Dog to select from with respect to the size of the animal and the personal demands of the owner. Regardless of whether an owner favors a wood, vinyl, chain link, or electronic one, an adequate containment system is vital for keeping the family pooch protected, in good health, and happy.
